Vitamin C Powder Benefits
Vitamin C inhibits an enzyme called tyrosinase. Tyrosinase converts the amino acid tyrosine into melanin, the pigment that gives your skin its color.
Vitamin C replenishes vitamin E which is another important antioxidant that protects your skin from oxidative damage. After your skin is exposed to sunlight, levels of vitamin E decline. It has been found that vitamin C helps replenish vitamin E after sun exposure.
Applying vitamin C to your face may help reduce the appearance of dark spots caused by sun damage. Topical vitamin C inhibits the production of melanin, which is what gives skin spot their dark color.
Your skin naturally produces less collagen as you get older. A loss in collagen is one factor that causes your skin to sag as you age. Applying vitamin C to your face may help improve your skin’s production of collagen, especially if you spend a lot of time in the sun or are low on dietary vitamin C.
As we age our skin tends to become less elastic and thinner, which can contribute to wrinkles. Although the formation of wrinkles is largely genetically predetermined, repeated exposure to UV rays can break down collagen and elastin and prematurely age your skin. Applying vitamin C powder to your face may protect it from sun damage.
How To Use
As with any skin care product, it’s a good idea to test a small amount of powdered vitamin C on a small section of your skin in a less-visible spot 24 hours before applying it to your whole face. This way you can see if you’re allergic to it.
To ensure freshness and to prevent any oxidation, it is preferable to immediately use after mixing especially when mixed with water-based products.
The quantity of powder can be adjusted based on tolerance. We recommend using between a quarter to half a scoop mixed in with 5-10 drops of serum or a pea-dime size of emulsion based products.
Add the powder to water-based products like serums, essences, and lotions. Vitamin C is water-soluble, so it works best when mixed with light, watery textures until the powder dissolves.
Aim for 20% concentration or less, or about 1 part powder to 4 parts product or less. If your skin is sensitive, start with less powder. It’s always smart to patch test on your arm before trying it on your face.
Add a small amount of powder to the palm of your hand.
Mix the vitamin C powder with a serum or lotion in the palm of your hand. For vitamin C to be beneficial, it needs to make up at least 8 percent of the solution. A concentration higher than 20 percent may cause skin irritation.
Apply the solution either to your entire face or as a spot treatment.
Most will experience a very strong tingling but non-irritating sensation, this is normal and expected during the first 1-2 weeks of use until the skin's tolerance to such high exposure is elevated.
Vitamin C - Aloe Vera Serum
1 teaspoon GMO-free vitamin C powder
1 teaspoon filtered or purified water
1½ tablespoons aloe vera gel
⅛ teaspoon vitamin E oil
Using a small bowl and a whisk, combine the vitamin C powder and filtered water. Blend well.
Now, add the aloe and blend again. Aloe vera has long been known for its amazing skin benefits. In fact, the ancient Egyptians called it the “plant of immortality.”
Once you have added the aloe, add the vitamin E oil blend until everything is completely mixed together. Like vitamin C, vitamin E is an amazing antioxidant. When combined with vitamin C and the rest of these ingredients, it becomes even more powerful! (Vitamin E is oil soluble and will not blend well)
Vitamin C Serum should only be used at night to avoid exposure to the sun. Make sure to cleanse the skin the next morning before applying sunscreen and makeup.
